With their children grown up and moved out, this client approached us to design a new home for them, one they could retire in. Having already purchased a lot in an established neighbourhood, we worked with the client and their contractor to develop a home appropriate for their new needs and property. A single story Craftsman home was the starting point and from there we developed a functional floor plan including a master suite, open plan dining room, kitchen perfect for entertaining and intimate family room with double sided fireplace. Custom millwork and architectural woodwork was detailed throughout the home and helped to keep the desired Craftsman style fluid. High-quality and durable yet affordable finishes were chosen for all areas and uses of the home. The exterior envelope was an exciting opportunity to combine stone, vinyl siding and moulding details, creating a statement home perfect for the surrounding neighbourhood. Along with the interior of the home, the client asked for a backyard escape – this included a hot tub opposite the double sided fireplace, dining area and cooking space. The final design is a perfect city escape for two.
