About to celebrate its centennial, the kitchen at this residence hadn't been significantly updated in over 50 years. Small in footprint, and additionally challenged by 4 entry points to and through it, this hub kitchen needed a re-organization. Sensitive to the age and demeanor of the home, it was important to this client to ensure the renovation did not scream out "brand new!", but rather quietly integrated within the design sensibility of the home. The space was maximized by extending the built-in custom cabinetry vertically, with the upper shelves designed extra deep for improved storage. Appliances were relocated and the overall circulation improved. Behind the unassuming craftsman style cabinet faces one will find a wide variety of high density storage solutions and built-in appliances, concealed from view but situated conveniently at hand. All the modern conveniences one would expect in today's kitchen but enveloped in materials and finishes that recall a simpler time.
