Located within the Health Sciences Centre, the Pediatric Respirology Clinic is a very busy ambulatory clinic, catering to the needs of a very wide range of young patients. With an expanded patient volume, this group required additional space. The solution was to renovate the existing south wing of the Children’s Hospital. The program included a new reception and waiting area, new examination and treatment rooms, expanded staff and administration offices as well as renovations to the sleep lab areas. An additional challenge was that all construction had to occur while the clinic remained operational. This required a multi-phased sequence of construction. The spaces were developed with children as the focus, so details, colours and finishes were all selected to inspire and to provide interest for children who have to visit the clinic time and time again. Each visit should be like visiting the clinic for the first time - always something new for these small but highly observant patients to see and experience.
