The mothering project (MANITO IKWE KAGIKEWE) is a facility within North End of Winnipeg which provides support to vulnerable mothers and their families. Our design team was contracted to help outfit the brand new facility with robust and beautiful furnishings which would maximise the functionality of the space for this very sensitive and community-focused project. Running many different programs and hosting upwards of 50 people at a time meant that the furnishings needed to be flexible and multi-purpose. We rallied our resources to present to the community our interpretation of comfortable, family-centered spaces promoting equality, optimism, security and pride through incorporation of colour, texture, pattern and warmth.  Working closely with the client to select artwork that was consistent with the theme of the spaces created warm and inviting interiors that not only met the needs of the functional program as established by the architectural consultant but also furthered the design direction and helped fulfill the overall objectives of the project for the community at large.
